BAPTISM
AT MT. ALTO
Baptism is a step of obedience that someone takes after they have trusted in Jesus Christ as their Savior. Baptism is a symbol that someone has a restored relationship with God through their faith in Christ. At Mt. Alto, we practice baptism by immersion and only baptize professing believers in Christ (Matthew 3:16, Acts 8:37-38). Baptism is a spiritual marker, a step of obedience, a symbol of God’s salvation, a way of identifying with the body of Christ, and a powerful witness to all who see us immersed in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Baptism is symbolic of the following things:
Christ’s death and resurrection.
The Christian is now cleansed and washed of sin.
The new life that a Christian now walks in.
The Christian’s union with Christ.
Why make such a big deal about Baptism?
To put it simply, because Jesus did. It was Jesus Himself who said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20
Who should be baptized?
Anyone who is a disciple of Christ–those who have heard the gospel, repented of their sin, and believed. “So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” - Acts 2:41
Should infants be baptized?
No, because babies have not yet heard the gospel, repented, and believed. The Bible has no command to baptize infants, nor is there an explicit example of infant baptism in the Bible.
How old should children be before they are baptized?
Old enough for there to be genuine repentance, a credible testimony of faith, and evidence of newness of life.
How should we baptize?
By immersion, because the meaning of the Greek New Testament word for baptize “baptizo” is to dip, and because immersion best conveys the essential meaning of baptism – union by faith with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection.
If I want to be baptized, what should I do?
We invite you to come forward during the invitation following the message at any morning worship service. Our pastor would love to pray with you and set up a time where you can clearly discern if you have made a genuine profession of faith to follow Jesus and are ready to be obedient in following through with believer’s baptism. Our pastor will provide you with age-appropriate material to help you better understand this key step in your new walk with Christ. When your ready, the pastor will schedule a Sunday service for your baptism.

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of a church universal, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. Matthew 26:26-30.
Can non-Mt. Alto church members participate in the Lord’s Supper?
Yes, the prerequisites to the Lords Supper are being a repentant saved believer in Christ, baptized by immersion, and a member of a church universal. If you’re a member of Mt. Alto, or if you’re a member of another evangelical church, and you’ve been baptized as a believer in Jesus, you’re welcome to the table with us. 1 Corinthians 10:16-22.
How often is the Lord’s Supper observed?
We observe the Lord’s Supper, four to six times a year, during special services to better highlight the memorial of the death of our Savior in our place, and the blessed hope of His promised return.
